Situated at the gateway of Geneva, alongside railway tracks leading into the heart of the city, the Student House will provide 135 apartments for Institute students and a small number of visiting professors. It will be built on top of the future Secheron Park+Rail parking structure. The construction is currently underway and the living space will be available at the beginning of the 2012 academic year.
The building will look out onto the city and nearby nature and will have a semi-private garden at its base along the public walkway linking the avenue de France with the future Maison de la Paix. All of the apartments will cross from the east to west side of the building. The bedrooms will face east and will benefit from calm, morning sunlight as well as views of the lake and the Alps. The common spaces will open onto the west. The building’s passageways will be open air meeting places, overlooking the fascinating spectacle of trains entering and leaving Geneva.
The Student House will be directly linked to the Maison de la Paix by a pedestrian bridge, a project led by the City of Geneva. It will allow students to reach the library and classrooms on foot within minutes.
This place of residence will distinguish itself through its simplicity, its shape and its situation in the cityscape and among Geneva’s important institutions.
