The New Dimensions of XXI Century Diplomacy

The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (through its Centre for International Governance – CIG) organised a first training course on “The new dimensions of XXI century diplomacy” in Prishtina (Kosovo) from 26 to 30 April 2010. The course was financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. 

The training course was attended by 14 junior diplomats and civil servants from the Government of Kosovo.

The course included the following modules:

Module 1: The challenges to diplomacy today.

Module 2: Basic notions of diplomacy. Diplomatic writing, public discourse and
press relations.

Module 3: Economic, financial and trade relations in a globalized world.

Aside from providing up-to-date knowledge and expertise on basic notions of diplomacy and also on some of the most important current issues in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, commercial diplomacy and international affairs, the course served as a forum of exchange of views and experiences among diplomats and civil servants from various backgrounds. The course included numerous practical exercises and simulations. The course has been facilitated by high-level academics, policy-experts and practitioners from the Graduate Institute, the World Trade Organization and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland. The course has been thought in English.

Upon completion of the course, the participants were awarded a course certificate.
