WTO Moot Court Competition

The European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) organizes the Moot Court Competition on International Trade Law. This simulated hearing, based on the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement system, involves not only law students from the entire world, but also several respected trade law experts and WTO legal officers. This activity complements the formal legal education of Graduate Institute’s students, since it allows them to put theory into practice and to further develop the academic interest in this field.

Since 2007, the Graduate Institute has sent teams to participate in this competition and each year our level of preparation and training has increased. In case you are interested in participating in our team, attending our training sessions and activities, or simply in obtaining more information on this competition, please contact our Graduate Institute’s coaches and academic supervisor at the CTEI.

The WTO Moot Court experience:

Babette Ancery, 2008-2009 team member
“By far my most memorable and amazing experience at the Graduate Institute: being able to develop your legal writing and pleadings skills, gaining a profound and in-depth knowledge of trade law, while at the same time making great friends and meeting well known professionals from the trade law field.”

Vivian Sooan Choi, 2008-2009 team member
“It's the extra mile that can take you from being a good student to thinking like a real lawyer”

Bassant El Attar, 2008-2009 team member
“The most rewarding part of the moot court was the extent of our interaction with case law. In a few a minutes, we could conjure up a satisfying buffet featuring Japan-Alcohol, US-Shrimp, Korea-Beef and EC-Bananas, just to name a few!”
