Global Health Europe is a not for profit group established to provide a platform for discussion of global health issues. The Global Health Programme of the Graduate Institute is a key actor in initiating Global Health Europe which is supported by the UK Department of Health, Swiss Government, Global Forum on Health Research and European Foundation Centre and led by Professor Ilona Kickbusch.

The recognition of the need for policy coherence, strategic direction and a value base in relation to global heath is only just beginning to emerge in Europe – both within countries and at the level of the European Union. In January 2008, at the invitation of the European Foundation Centre, the Global Health Programme and the Global Forum on Health Research, 25 different organisations met in Geneva Switzerland to answer  the call for stronger European engagement in global health that was first ellaborated in a document entitled European perspectives on Global Health - A policy glossary.”

At this meeting these organisations agreed to embark on an initiative for a European Council on Global Health. (for details see: The Lancet Vol. 371, 24 May 2008). A small task force was established to take the initiative forward and after further deliberations it is now named: Global Health Europe: A Platform for European Engagement in Global Health. During the last two years Global Health Europe has been a hosted project of the Global Health Programme. The Global Health Europe online platform was officially launched by the Global Health Programme at the 2009 edition of the annual Symposium Negotiation Health in the 21st Century.  Follow the links for details on the launch including a background presentation by Professor  Ilona Kickbusch.
