Jacques O. Martin

Jacques O. Martin, a Swiss national and a political scientist, has more than 30 years of international experience including 20 years devoted to health matters.
Worked 15 years in several developing countries in Asia and in Africa, including 10 years as a programme director for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Headed the Human resources technical division of the Agency at HQ in Bern from 1991 to 2000 (Health, AIDS, Population, Gender and Education issues).
Took an active part since 1991 in governing bodies of WHO, UNAIDS, ICDDR,B, the Global Fund, and in many other UN Board meetings (UNDP, UNFPA, CPD) as well as in international conferences as a negotiator (Cairo, AIDS summits). Took part in particular in the creation of UNAIDS in 1995 and of the Global Fund in 2001.
Board Member (1995-2000) and, during 3 years Chair of the Board of Trustees of ICDDR,B (Health and Population Research Centre in Dhaka, Bangladesh with 1500 staff and 200 researchers).
Taught International Health and Population issues at the Graduate Institute for Development Studies (IUED, Geneva) from 2000 to 2003.
Worked as a Health Counsellor at the Swiss Mission to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva from 2004 to 2008.
Is presently senior advisor to the Global Health Diplomacy programme at the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies (IHEID) and works as an independent consultant as well.
