Consortium for Global Health Diplomacy (CGHD)The Aims
The CGHD brings together institutes and programmes that work to develop an interdisciplinary approach to the interface of global health and foreign policy.
The Approach
The members of the CGHD agree to share and discuss their respective concept and approaches to global health diplomacy as well as their priority areas of work initially over a period of five years in order to enable exchange and cooperation. The Activities
The members of the consortium
The CGHD is a partnership of 20 institutes and programmes based in Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, and USA who work at the interface of health and foreign policy. The expertise and experiences of the individuals involved in the CGHD is interdisciplinary and ranges from international relations, economics, public health to development. Some institutes have close relationships with national policy-makers and practitioners. The consortium is presently reaching out to add members from Africa and the Middle East. Capacity development
The CGHD wants to strengthen the capacity of its members at the individual and organisational levels. In particular, it aims to contribute to a better understanding of global health diplomacy, to identify research needs in this area, to undertake comparative research and communicate findings effectively. The consortium also works to strengthen the capacity of policy- and decision-makers, diplomats, health experts and others in global health diplomacy contributing to a more holistic understanding of negotiations in global health. Communication
The CGHD builds on the networks of its members in order to ensure the dissemination of information, such as print publications (journal articles, briefing notes, posters); information on conferences, initiatives and global meetings, as well as innovative approaches through the internet will be applied. Management
The CGHD is presently chaired by Dr. Ilona Kickbusch from the Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva and is co-chaired by Dr. Lucy Chen from the Institute of Global Health Beijing, Dr. Paulo Buss from the Center for Global Health, FIOCRUZ, Rio de Janeiro, and Dr. Stephen Matlin from the Global Forum for Health Research, Geneva.
