2011
- Dr. Philippe Gazagne à travers « Dit vouloir mourir en Suisse », premier court-métrage documentaire du Programme (Cinédoc Productions, Annecy, 2011), a visé à amorcer au sein du PGSM une réflexion à long terme sur les liens entre l’image et les sciences sociales. - Professor Monsutti was Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna, Departement of Social and Cultural Anthropology from 15 to 30 January 2012. He gave a course on "Insurgents, Refugees and Humanitarian Activists: A Political Anthropology of the Afghan Crisis" and a conference on "Afghans Without Borders: Mobility and the International World of Nations" (18 janvier 2012).
- Professor Monsutti gave a lecture on “The Politics of Reconstruction in Afghanistan: Rural Development, Local Participation and the Workshop Culture” at Austrian Academy of Sciences on 24 of January 2012. More info

- The GFMD Civil Society Days took place in Geneva from 29-30 November 2011. Dr. Jérôme Elie acted as co-rapporteur for and rapporteur for the working session on "Rights-based Policy-making for the Benefit of Migrant Workers and Families" (Theme 1) and rapporteur for the session on "The Road towards 2013 and the Future of the Forum". - Dr. Jérôme Elie has been appointed as member of the GFMD Civil Society Core Group for the organization of the 2011 GFMD Civil Society Days to be held in Geneva on 29-30 November 2011
- On 12-14 July 2011, the Global Detention Project participated in a regional detention workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, that was hosted by the International Detention Coalition and Lawyers for Human Rights. Attending the workshop were immigration and refugee advocates from several countries in the region. The Global Detention Project gave a presentation on methods for developing systematic data on immigration detention regimes.
2010
- Dr. Jérôme Elie gave a presentation on “IOM from 1951-53: The creation of PICMME/ICEM” at the IOM Headquarters in Geneva, on 9 December 2010. The seminar was the first of a new series organized by IOM in the framework of the production of the 2011 edition of the World Migration Report (WMR). The seminar was jointly organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Programme for the Study of Global Migration
- Prof. Alessandro Monsutti gave a presentation on "Global Afghans: Transnational Networks and Migration Strategies", within the Workshop "Refugee Related Security Concerns: Mobilization, Ethnicity and Urbanization" organized by the international research project "Refugee Flows and Transnational Ethnic Linkages". University of Geneva, Friday 26 November 2010.
- Dr. Jérôme Elie contributed with a historical perspective with his presentation "UNHCR and Refugee Repatriation in the Early Cold War Years", at the first lecture of the conference series organised by the University of Geneva this fall on Refugee Issues (Cycle de conférence BARI “Réfugiés”), 21 October 2010.
- Dr. Jérôme Elie presented a paper on "UNHCR and ICEM in the 1950s" at the conference on "The Forty Years' Crisis: Refugees in Europe, 1919-1959", Birkbeck College, University of London, 14–16 September 2010.
- On 12-13 July 2010, Mr. Michael Flynn, lead researcher of the Global Detention Project participated in an Expert Group Meeting on the International Framework for Action to Implement the Migrant Smuggling Protocol hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. - Ms. Cecilia Cannon represented the Global Detention Project at a conference on the Detention of Vulnerable Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants in the European Union, in Brussels 8 June 2010. The conference was organised by the Jesuit Refugee Service- Europe which recently published a comprehensive study "Becoming Vulnerable in Detention: Civil Society Report on the Detention of Vulnerable Asylum Seekers and Irregular Migrants in the European Union (The DEVAS Project)".
- Lead researcher Michael Flynn presented the Global Detention Project at a workshop on Immigration and Detention at the University of Oxford 21 May 2010. The presentation "Immigration Detention and the Aesthetics of Incarceration" underscores the normative challenges to immigration and detention and illustrates the core objectives of the Global Detention Project.
- Dr. Jérôme Elie presented a paper on "La question des réfugiés et la coopération entre le HCR et le Comité intergouvernemental pour les migrations européennes (CIME), 1950-1980", at the meeting of the Groupe histoire des organisations internationales, Geneva, 23 February 2010.

- Prof. Vincent Chetail participated to the panel at the Launch of the "Human Development Report 2009: "Overcoming barriers: Human Mobility and Development",at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Geneva, 14 October 2009. More information about the event.
- Prof. Vincent Chetail chaired a session on "Environmental Change: A Need to Redefine International Refugee Status?" at a conference on "Environmental Change and Its Impact on Human Societies", Graduate Institute, Geneva, 8-9 October 2009.
- Dr. Jérôme Elie represented the Programme for the Study of Global Migration at "Rencontre d'échanges entre ONG suisses/centres de recherche sur le thème du Forum global pour la migration et développement (FGMD)", Département fédéral des affaires étrangères DFAE, Direction du développement et de la coopération DDC, Berne, jeudi 24 septembre 2009.
- Dr. Jérôme Elie represented the Programme for the Study of Global Migration at the "UNESCO International Conference on Broadcast Media and Climate Change: A Public Service Remit", 4-5 September 2009, UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France.
