ScholarshipsScholarshipsEach year the Graduate Institute awards a substantial number of scholarships to Master and PhD students based on academic merit and financial need. Several different scholarships are available: full scholarships, partial scholarships and tuition fees exemptions. Scholarships are awarded for one year and are not automatically renewed. The renewal of scholarships is subject to two conditions: being in a financial situation which justifies the need for a scholarship and having obtained good academic results (for MA students, a minimum average result of 4.75 for all courses taken: for PhD students, a minimum average result of 4.75 for all courses taken and for the preliminary thesis dissertation, if applicable).
The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students gives foreign graduate students the possibility to come to study or do research in Switzerland.
Current Students who have applied for scholarships on time can check the status of their application using this link. Request for emergency aidStudents registered in our study programmes who encounter serious and unexpected financial difficulties may apply for special financial assistance, from 15 February to 30 March or from 15 September to 31 October, by submitting the completed application form to specialaid@graduateinstitute.ch. Requests submitted outside this timeframe will not be considered. As far as possible, applicants are required to provide supporting documents attesting to their current situation. In principle, only students in their second year of Masters studies and third or fourth year of PhD studies may benefit from these once off subsidies.
