Defne Gönenç obtained her PhD from the Graduate Institute of Geneva in International Relations and specializes in environmental justice and politics with a focus on India and Turkey. At the CCDP, she works as a Research Assistant for the project 'Transparency: Qualities and Technologies of Global Gemstone Trading' with Professor Filipe Calvão. She obtained her Master's degree from the University of Cambridge.

Her articles have appeared in Alternative Politika, Europe-Asia Studies, Journal of Human Rights and the Environment, Cumhuriyet Newspaper, New Internationalist, openDemocracy, SouthAsia@LSE, LSE Blog, ResearchTurkey, the Conversation, Yeşilgazete, and ATAUM-E Bulten. She also contributes to GAZE-TEMIZ weekly.
