As highlighted by the conflict in Ukraine, not only do geopolitical forces (still) matter, but also, the shifting balances of power and the crisis they generate reveal other, underlying issues.

For example, the blockade of foreigners residing in Ukraine and fleeing the conflict has sparked a round of public outcry and questions about Western countries' differentiated treatment of refugees.
