The best PhD and Master theses were honored with the Leonid Hurwicz and Rudi Dornbusch Prizes at the 2020 Graduation Ceremony.
This year three students were commended for their exceptional Master or PhD theses in International Economics or Development Economics.
We would like to congratulate Reuben Muhindi Wambui, Aakriti Mathur and Pedro Guimarães Naso for their remarkable success!
Reuben Muhindi Wambui was this year's recipient of the Rudi Dornbusch Prize, awarded by the International Economics Department to the best Master thesis of International Economics.
Reuben's exceptional thesis titled "Climate-Related Financial Risks for Kenyan Banks: An Analysis of Loan Portfolios and GHG Emissions" was supervised by Professor Cedric Tille.
Aakriti Mathur was one of the 2020 recipients of the Leonid Hurwicz Prize, awarded by the International Economics Department to the best Doctorate thesis of International Economics or Development Economics.
Aakriti's award-winning thesis "Essays in Banking and Monetary Policy" was part of her PhD in International Economics and was written under the supervision of Professor Ugo Panizza.
The joint winner of the Leonid Hurwicz Prize was Pedro Guimarães Naso.
Pedro, who completed his PhD in Development Economics in 2020, was awarded for his thesis "Essays on Environmental and Development Economics", supervised by Professor Timothy Swanson.

Rudi Dornbusch was an alumnus of the Graduate Institute and one of the world's most influential international economists.
Leonid Hurwicz was also an alumnus of the Institute. He received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2007, together with Eric S. Maskin and Roger B. Myerson, for their formulation of "mechanism design theory".
