"Kevin Chang is an expert on international human rights law, conflict mediation and justice sector reform. He brings two decades of international experience serving the United Nations, the Australian Government and international organisations across ten countries. His UN experience spans across peacekeeping, development and humanitarian operations. In recent years he has served as the UN’s senior justice advisor in Myanmar and Ethiopia, and was senior political advisor in UN’s peacekeeping operations in South Sudan and Timor-Leste. He has also served on UN posts in Nepal, Pakistan and at Geneva Headquarters. Kevin also brings experience as an Australian Government official, most recently as Senior Legal Officer and Director a.i. of Human Rights Policy in the Federal Attorney-General’s Department, with earlier work at the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Office of Indigenous Policy Coordination. He has also been a Legal Advisor on international humanitarian law at the International Committee of the Red Cross.
A common thread through Kevin’s work has been the promotion of justice and human rights in conflict-affected situations, including laws and policies concerning anti-discrimination and social inclusion. Kevin is a Lawyer of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, and teaches as an Associate Professor in International Law at National Chengchi University (Taiwan) and an Honorary Associate in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney. He speaks English, Chinese and French."
