One strand of Simeon's PhD investigates how educational systems in low-income countries can be improved and examines the consequences of this improvement on students' education and labor market outcomes. The other strand explores the social legacies of conflict, examining its implications for government institutions and the social empowerment of individuals exposed to conflict. While his primary research focus is on Sub-Saharan Africa, he aims to extend his research to Asia and Europe.
Simeon obtained his master’s degree in Economics from Sciences Po Paris in 2020 and his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Social Sciences from Sciences Po Paris and the Free University of Berlin. Before starting his university studies, he spent six months working in Senegal as an English teacher. In addition to teaching at the Graduate Institute, he has worked for the OECD, NORRAG, GIZ, and the German Institute for Economic Research. He also served as a research assistant at Sciences Po Paris and the Geneva Graduate Institute.
