Research Programmes

CIES is structured around the following research programmes:

  • Environmental Governance
  • Climate, Energy and Innovation
  • Resources and Development
  • Agrarian Environment and Food Systems

These programmes gathers a total of 9 externally funded projects in 2021. Funding for these projects came from diverse sources, including Swiss public research funding organizations (SNF and SNIS),European Research Council and private foundations. 

 

 

Environmental Governance
 

This programme aims to offer an interdisciplinary perspective on the design, dynamics and impact of different institutional mechanisms. It explores legal foundations and models for international environmental governance.

Climate Change, Energy and Innovation
 

This programme clusters academic research on issues of climate change, energy and technological developments, which helps to inform policies on green growth, energy transition and the development of clean technologies.

Resources and Development
 

This programme investigates how environmental regulation and growth combine to define development paths for developing countries. It includes research on themes of land use, food security and biodiversity in order to contribute to problem solving in developing countries.

Agrarian Environment and Food Systems

his research programme brings together disciplinary perspectives from law, anthropology, political science and international relations, economics, and history, to address critical questions at the interface of agricultural production, food systems, and environmental change.
