You can apply from the start or enrol any time within five years and a half.

  • Intense five days in Geneva designed exclusively for MAS participants: analytical sessions in the mornings, and practical/methodology sessions in the afternoons

COMPLETE YOUR FINAL ASSIGNMENT

Finish it within six months after the final 45 ECTS grade is obtained or after the core course is completed.

  • Very flexible, to suit your professional needs: choose your topic of interest & preferred format amongst four options (policy paper, advocacy paper, individual professional project, research paper)
  • 12'000 words (around 30 pages) maximum
  • Written paper and oral presentation; Participants must defend their paper within 10 to 15 days after submitting it

5-DAY CORE COURSE IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

You can apply from the start or enrol any time within five years and a half.

The core course of the Master in Advanced Studies is the cornerstone of the MAS in International Relations degree. Anchored in the five disciplines taught at the Graduate Institute – anthropology and sociology, international economics, international history and politics, international law, and political science – the course provides modules on each of these disciplines’ outlook on international affairs.

These modules are taught by senior professors allowing participants a first-rate exchange with renowned specialised faculty.

We delve into theories of international relations, the role of law, anthropological approaches, international organisations and multilateralism, development and international economics, global health, and contemporary security challenges. In addition, the course features a session on diplomacy, as well as a workshop on the methodologies of international affairs.

Entry Requirements
 

  • Selection is primarily based on the candidate's professional experience and motivation.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, or a diploma deemed to be equivalent (no particular discipline)

  • A minimum of 5 years of full-time work is highly recommended

  • Proficiency in English is required

 

Degrees Awarded


Master of Advanced Studies in International Relations
Master of Advanced Studies/Executive Master in the Swiss higher education system (60 ECTS)

To gain the 60 ECTS, participants have to complete the following successfully:

  • Degree-granting programmes (CAS and DAS) to be chosen from the Graduate Institute’s Executive Education portfolio for a cumulated value of at least 45 ECTS

  • The core course in “International Relations”

  • A final assignment, which includes a written paper, and an oral defence. The final assignment (written and oral parts) must be completed at the end of the MAS, after having gathered the 45 ECTS and followed the core course. It has to be finished within a maximum of six months after the date of the final grade obtained to complete the 45 ECTS or the last day of the core course. In addition, participants must defend their paper within 10 to 15 days after submitting it.
