Interdisciplinary Masters 2021-2023

Learn a critical approach to understanding the structural transformations that shape the international system and the development of human societies.

Our programmes

The Interdisciplinary Master programmes offer students the choice to pursue either a Master in International Affairs or a Master in Development Studies, both of which draw from the Institute’s core disciplines: anthropology and sociology, economics, history, law and political science.

Each of these two-year degrees combines critical analyses of alternative paradigms, methodological competences and substantive knowledge in thematic specialisations, as well as practice-oriented applied research projects and skills workshops, in order to prepare students for successful careers in government, international organisations, business or the non-profit sector.

This master provides students with a sound understanding of the actors, policies and processes that shape global governance today.

Students may choose from one of three specialisation tracks:

Giordano turned an Applied Research Project (Capstone) from his Master in Development Studies into a career opportunity. He currently supports people with refugee or migrant backgrounds in establishing their own businesses through SINGA Switzerland.

our practice-oriented programmes

Our Interdisciplinary Master programmes include the completion of an Applied Research Project (Capstone). These projects gives students the opportunity to collaborate with one of the Graduate Institute’s international partners in Geneva to conduct hands-on research.

As part of the programmes, students also attend professional skills workshops, which are facilitated by industry experts. These workshops help students acquire or enhance the tools necessary for them to build a career in international affairs and/or development.
