The Ciné-Club Technologies and the Future of Our Societies continues its 2026–2027 season with Arco (2025), the acclaimed animated feature by French filmmaker Ugo Bienvenu.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Neal Hartman, President of the CERN CineGlobe Film Festival exploring the themes and questions raised by the film.
 

About the film

In 2075, ten-year-old Iris sees a mysterious boy in a rainbow-coloured suit fall from the sky. His name is Arco, and he comes from a distant, idyllic future where time travel has become possible. Iris takes him in and sets out to help him find his way home.

Blending adventure and science fiction, Arco imagines possible futures through the eyes of its young protagonists, opening up questions about technology, our relationship with the future, and the societies we hope to build.

The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2026 Academy Awards and received the Cristal for a Feature Film at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Discussion

The screening will be followed by a discussion inviting the audience to reflect on the technological and societal questions explored in the film.

Each screening is followed by a discussion, creating a space for audiences and researchers to reflect on the implications of the technologies and possible futures portrayed on screen.

The Ciné-Club is organised in partnership with the State of Geneva, the Geneva Graduate Institute, HES-SO Genève, the University of Geneva and the Pôle de création numérique.
