Description
The way we produce and consume food shapes the health of people, animals and the environment.
Diseases transmitted from animals to humans can emerge wherever livestock, wildlife and people share the same spaces. The overuse of antimicrobials in farming contributes to antimicrobial resistance, making infections harder to treat in both animals and people. Pollution from farming can degrade the soil and water on which food production relies. These risks are interconnected and shaped by how food is produced, processed and traded. One Health is an approach that addresses these risks collectively rather than sector by sector.
Despite growing political recognition, putting One Health into practice remains a challenge. From 21 to 23 September 2026, the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems in Rome brought together governments, international organizations, academia, civil society and the private sector to discuss approaches to implementation.
Building on the insights and momentum generated by this conference, we are bringing the conversation to Geneva, home to many organizations working on health, food and the environment. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Liaison Office in Geneva (FAO LOG), together with the International Geneva Global Health Platform at the Global Health Centre of the Geneva Graduate Institute, is organizing a dialogue on One Health implementation in agrifood systems.
The event will focus on practical measures, partnerships and policy approaches to support integrated action across human, animal, plant and environmental health in agrifood systems.
