A BRIEF HISTORY OF A LONG WAR

"A Brief History of a Long War" (Ten Speed Graphic, 2026) is a newly released graphic novel tracing Ukraine’s centuries-long struggle against Russian domination, from the Middle Ages to today’s devastating war. Drawing on historical sources, this graphic novel makes complex events accessible through clear, straightforward storytelling. Translated into 11 languages, the book has been praised as "a vital work of graphic history" (Library Journal) and "essential reading for those seeking context on the Russia–Ukraine war."

The event will feature a discussion with the author Mariam Naiem and Nataliya Tchermalykh, Research Professor at the Center for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism (CDHM), Geneva Graduate Institute. It will be moderated by Barbara Olewska, first-year MA student in International Relations and Political Science at the Geneva Graduate Institute.

The event will last approximately 60 minutes and will include time for questions.
