Doctoral Workshop: Research Funding, Proposal Writing, CUSO, Academic Careers

The Graduate Institute’s Research Office is organizing a half-day workshop for doctoral candidates on research funding opportunities, effective proposal writing strategies, opportunities offered by CUSO and academic career advice. All PhD candidates of the Graduate Institute are welcome.

A) Research Funding: Finding the Right Fit

9.00-10.00: Kristina Arseneau and Dominic Eggel from the Research Office will provide you with tools and strategies to find funding opportunities, as well as an overview of the main programs open to PhD candidates during their doctorate and when launching their postdoctoral careers.

10.00-10.30: Testimonials and discussion with current postdoctoral researchers about research funding and academic career paths. Speakers: Dr. Ezgi Yildiz, Senior Researcher at the Global Governance Center; Dr. Sebastian Alvarez, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Finance and Development

B) Grant Writing: Tips & Strategies for Success

10.45-11.30: Grant writing is a key academic skill, but what does it take to craft an excellent proposal? Speakers: Dominic Eggel and Kristina Arseneau

C) CUSO: Doctoral Schools and Transversal Skills

11.30-12.00: Learn more about the opportunities offered by CUSO in terms of disciplinary doctoral schools, networking opportunities and career skills. Speaker: Dominic Eggel, Member CUSO CCG

D) Academic Careers: A Roundtable Discussion

12.15-13.45: Round table discussion and Q+A session on academic career planning with Professors from the Graduate Institute. Speakers: Sungmin Rho (IRPS), Nico Krisch (IL), Julia Cajal (IE), Cyrus Schayegh (IHP), Anna-Rikka Kauppinen (ANSO)
