Crisis often allows change. Do we have indications of a change in global health in the aftermath of Ebola? What proposals have been put forward? What is expected of the World Health Organization (WHO)? How do Member States need to respond? What is the role of other sectors such as the humanitarian sector, the security sector or the airline industry? How does global health research need to be strengthened and what is the role of industry?
Join us for a discussion on priority reforms that are required in the governance of global health in the aftermath of the Ebola Crisis. Speakers will include members of the panels that have been established to make recommendations in the wake of Ebola:
-
The Ebola Interim Assessment Panel established by the Executive Board of the WHO
-
The Independent Panel on the Global Response to Ebola convened by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Harvard Global Health Institute
-
The US National Academy of Medicine independent, multi-stakeholder expert commission to create a global health risk framework for the future
-
The High-Level panel on the Global Response to Health Crises established by the UN Secretary General.
An introduction will provide a synthesis of key messages emerging from the work of the various panels, including major areas of agreement. We hope that this discussion will allow a wide range of stakeholders in global health to exchange views before the debates at the WHO Executive Board.
Professor Thomas Zeltner, former Director-General of the Federal Office of Public Health of Switzerland and Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Global Health Programme, will moderate this event.
The meeting is supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
