About the Speaker

Eva van der Marel is an associate professor in law at UiT the Arctic University of Norway where she works as part of the Norwegian Centre of the Law of the Sea (NCLOS). 

Her research interests include the law of the sea and environmental law, in particular fisheries and marine pollution, and she is the academic director at UiT for the Joint Nordic Masters Programme in Environmental Law (NOMPEL). Eva obtained her PhD in law at UiT in 2020, after which she joined the European Commission (DG MARE) in Brussels, followed by a postdoc at the University of Oxford working on the interdisciplinary ‘Future of Plastics’ project. She returned to Tromsø in January 2023 as associate professor.

The International Law Colloquium is a forum for discussing international law scholarship, featuring diverse topics and approaches. It provides an opportunity for in-depth engagement with ongoing research, with participants expected to read the drafts circulated before each session. Speakers include both faculty from the International Law Department and invited external experts.
