Geneva celebrates World Press Freedom Day with the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Nobel Peace Prize laureates, journalists Maria Ressa, founder of the investigative news site Rappler in the Philippines, and Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta in Moscow, will discuss the state of press freedom in our fractured world.  

In presence of: 

  • Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

  • Simonetta Sommaruga, Federal Councillor, Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications

  • Sami Kanaan, Administrative Councillor, Department of Culture and Digital Transition, City of Geneva 

  • Patrick Chappatte, cartoonist, President of the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation 

The Freedom Cartoonists Foundation will then hand out the 2022 Kofi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award. 

This conference and ceremony is organised by the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation and the City of Geneva in partnership with the Geneva Graduate Institute and Le Temps. 

Please note that this event will be bilingual in English and French and will be translated simultaneously in French, English and Russian.
