Organised as part of the AHCD Research Seminar, this presentation will highlight an ongoing collaborative research project in political science examining how political parties address climate change and environmental issues more broadly. The project focuses on political parties (including organisations, MPs and activists) in Europe, North America and South America. The project involves PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and senior researchers based in Switzerland, Italy and Quebec, and adopts a variety of sources and methodologies. The presentation will focus on the main results, paying particular attention to the importance of ideological and partisan polarisations relating to environmental issues in contemporary democracies.

Speaker bio: Oscar Mazzoleni is a professor in political science at the University of Lausanne and co-director of LIA-PARDUR (International Laboratory on Representation, Parties and Sustainability). He has extensively published research on political parties, populism, and nationalism.  His last book is « Territory and democratic politics. A critical introduction », Palgrave, 2024.
