At a time when democracy and multilateralism face growing challenges, the event will provide an opportunity to discuss how international cooperation can be strengthened to support democratic renewal.
The Global Commission on Democracy and Multilateralism, convened by Club de Madrid together with International IDEA, the Open Government Partnership and the European Democracy Hub, brings together former Heads of State and Government, senior international leaders and democracy experts to develop recommendations for strengthening international support for democracy.
Following the launch of the Commission’s final report during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York in September 2026, the Geneva event will present its key recommendations and bring together representatives of governments, international organizations, civil society and academia to explore their political feasibility and pathways for implementation.
