Join the Peacebuilding Initiative at our next Inspiring Peacemakers Series for a conversation with David Harland, Executive Director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), on the topic “Mediating in a Multipolar World: Lessons from the Black Sea Grain Initiative”.

Welcoming Remarks will be presented by Gunnar Berkemeier, Minister-Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in Geneva.

As geopolitics becomes increasingly multipolar, mediation has grown more complex. This event examines the role of diplomacy in an era when multiple actors, interests, and regional powers influence international negotiations.

Drawing on the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the conversation will examine how HD helped facilitate dialogue during the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine to safeguard global food security. The discussion will reflect on what this initiative reveals about mediation in a multipolar context and the lessons it offers for resolving crises in a divided world.

The Inspiring Peacemakers Series is held in collaboration with, and made possible through the generous support of, the Nagulendran Philanthropy Alliance.

The event will feature a moderated discussion, a Q&A session, and light refreshments will be served afterward. For more information on the Inspiring Peacemakers Series and to see previous editions, please visit the Peacebuilding Initiative website.
