Peacemaking is in a state of flux. Growing geopolitical competition and increased normative contestation have complicated efforts to prevent, manage, and resolve armed conflict. Established peacemaking approaches are increasingly being questioned, while new actors and practices are emerging.
This panel brings together practitioners and researchers to reflect on the future of peacemaking in a rapidly changing world. Taking a forward-looking approach, panelists will reflect on which tools and approaches remain effective in mediation, as well as on the opportunities created by the contemporary peacemaking landscape to develop new and innovative strategies and partnerships.
The event is organised as part of the ‘Mediation Initiative’ – jointly implemented by the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP) at the Geneva Graduate Institute and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. It is supported by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
