INTERNATIONAL HISTORY AND POLITICS FORUM

The International History and Politics Department warmly invites you to this International History and Politics Forum event. The International History Forum and Politics (IHPF) is a regular series of discussions convened by the International History and Politics Department at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies to discuss a variety of global questions from a multiplicity of historically-informed perspectives.

About the Speaker

Julia Tischler is  professor of African history at the University of Basel, Switzerland. She obtained a PhD from the University of Cologne (2011); her dissertation focused on the Kariba Dam, on the border between today’s Zambia and Zimbabwe, as a case study of development and state building during the late colonial period. Before taking up her current position in Basel, she was a postdoc at the International Research Center “re:work: Work and Human Lifecycle in Global History” at Humboldt University in Berlin. Her project was a transnational history of agricultural education in South Africa in the first half of the twentieth century.
