The Geneva Graduate Institute will host a one-day workshop on The Societal Dimensions of Scientific Advice and Science Diplomacy, bringing together scholars and practitioners to examine how scientific expertise interacts with diplomacy in an era of technological acceleration and geopolitical disruption.

Add to Calendar

At a time when scientific advice increasingly shapes international decision-making, the workshop will explore critical questions related to power, inequality, digital sovereignty, security, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in scientific narratives and diplomatic practice.

About the workshop

The workshop will feature five thematic panels addressing key challenges at the intersection of science, technology, and diplomacy. Discussions will examine how scientific advice is produced, mobilised, and contested across national and multilateral settings, as well as the societal implications of emerging technologies.
The workshop will open with remarks by Stéphanie Balme (Sciences Po – Center for International Studies), and will conclude with closing remarks by Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Québec and President of the International Network for Governmental Science Advice (INGSA).
