This event will consist of an informal chat over coffee and refreshments hosted by the Latin America Network Initiative in partnership with the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, where students will have the opportunity to discuss with the Brazilian activist Emerson Caetano, currently working with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Emerson is now in Geneva for the 1st Session of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. On 2 August 2021, the General Assembly formally operationalized the Permanent Forum of People of African Descent, as a consultative mechanism for people of African descent and other relevant stakeholders as a platform for improving the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent.
