Thinking It Out Loud: Why Social Theory Is Worth It

Why does social theory matter, and how does it shape the way we see the world?

Join us for our next ANSO hangout — a relaxed conversation space where students host faculty, peers, and alumni to share experiences, answer questions, and open up what research and life at the Institute are really like.

This time, we’re thrilled to welcome Filipe Calvao faculty member of the ANSO department, who will reflect on their journeys with theories in ANSO.

He’ll talk about bridging classroom learning with social theory, the challenges (and surprises) of working with big ideas in anthropology and sociology, and how he helps students think critically about theory in practice.

It’s a chance to see how theory connects to research, ask the questions you’ve been holding onto, and get inspired by the many ways ideas take shape beyond textbooks

No pressure to be formal. Just bring your curiosity.
Camera and mic optional – your vibe, your call.
