Around 70 promising students and professionals from 35 countries around the world have hit the ground running as they begin attending lectures, meetings and workshops at the Graduate Institute’s 2015 Summer Programmes on International Affairs and Global Governance; and the WTO, International Trade and Development.
Unique opportunities to learn, meet and network within the very heart of the international community will prove to be a formative experience for participants during their two-to-three weeks in Geneva. Graduate Institute professors and distinguished guest speakers, all experts in their fields of international affairs and trade, will present a range of interdisciplinary topics, allowing students to explore and broaden their interests, competences and potential growth. The attendees will be invited to apply for a place in one of the Institute’s prestigious master or doctorate programmes. The students will be challenged as they engage in topics ranging from humanitarian interventions, transnational terrorism, global financial crises, the environment, to the future of development.
Participant Julian Olsen was more than satisfied with his experience last year, saying that he “would recommend the Graduate Institute’s Summer and Winter Programmes to anyone with a passion for international affairs and development”. Extracurricular activities, including visits to Geneva sites, meals at restaurants and nights out in the city, will provide a taste of the work-life balance available at the Graduate Institute. For many participants, guided tours of the UN or WTO will be the first time they have set foot in an international organisation. For perhaps a handful, it will certainly not be the last.
