Researchers from Ghana, India, Canada, and Argentina came together in Geneva to share the progress of their projects and exchange perspectives on how artificial intelligence can better serve the Global Majority through more inclusive, responsible, and context-sensitive approaches.
Organised as part of the ITU Kaleidoscope programme at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, the session showcased the diversity of research supported by the AI for the Global Majority initiative, a partnership between the Geneva Graduate Institute's Tech Hub, Microsoft, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The programme featured four presentations addressing distinct dimensions of AI governance and innovation. Topics ranged from inclusive speech recognition for low-resource languages and AI governance in India's financial sector to governance frameworks for public health and cooperative models of AI development in Argentina.
Moderated by Professor Jérôme Duberry, Director of the Tech Hub, the session fostered an engaging discussion on the importance of developing AI solutions that are grounded in local contexts while contributing to broader international debates on responsible and inclusive AI.
Beyond the conference session, all four projects were also presented at the ITU Kaleidoscope Research Projects Exhibition, where participants at the AI for Good Global Summit had the opportunity to discover the research and engage directly with members of the project teams.
Bringing the four teams together in Geneva marked an important milestone for the initiative, strengthening collaboration across disciplines and regions while creating new opportunities for dialogue with policymakers, researchers, international organisations, and industry representatives.
As the projects continue to develop, each research team will publish an article presenting its research, methodology, and key findings. Together, these publications will contribute to ongoing international discussions on responsible AI governance, inclusive innovation, and evidence-based policymaking.
