Applications Invite for Associate/Assistant Professor of Transnational Mobilities and Migrations

The Graduate Institute, Geneva invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate/Assistant Professor of Transnational Mobilities and Migrations.

The Graduate Institute aims to recruit an anthropologist or sociologist at the rank of Associate/Assistant Professor with proven research beyond the PhD and a demonstrated ability to address the field of cross-border and transnational mobilities, with an emphasis on migrant networks and diasporas.

The Institute is especially interested in scholars whose work demonstrates empirically grounded and theoretically original engagement with questions of mobility and migration in relation to processes of globalisation. Attention to the dynamics of transnational encounters, including migration-driven diversity related to gender, age, ethnicity, race and class, as well as the ethical and moral dimensions of relations among migrants, displaced persons, host communities and the state/states, would be an asset.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Anthropology or Sociology, demonstrate outstanding qualifications in Anthropology or Sociology and a strong record of academic achievements and publications, and be open to interdisciplinary dialogue and comparative approaches.

The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses and supervise master’s dissertations and PhD theses in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology. They may also be called upon to teach classes and supervise master’s dissertations in interdisciplinary programmes as well as contribute to executive education programmes. Candidates from the Global South are encouraged to apply.

The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.

Application deadline: 15 January 2022.

Please note that offers received by post will not be considered.

The Institute is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, marital status, disability status, race, national origin, colour, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
