The Ciné-Club Technologies and the Future of Our Societies returns this September for its fourth season, with a new programme of films and discussions exploring how technological change is transforming our lives and shaping possible futures.
Organised in partnership with the State of Geneva, the Geneva Graduate Institute, HES-SO Genève, the University of Geneva, and the Pôle de création numérique, the Ciné-Club brings together cinema and research to examine the complex relationship between technology and society.
This new season will feature ten films from around the world, ranging from classics to contemporary works. Each screening will be followed by a discussion led by a researcher, offering audiences an opportunity to reflect on the technologies portrayed on screen and their broader implications for society.
Opening the season: Wider Than the Sky
The 2026–2027 season opens on Tuesday, 15 September at 20:30 with Wider Than the Sky, a 2025 documentary by Italian-Swiss filmmaker Valerio Jalongo.
Artificial intelligence is simultaneously presented as an unprecedented opportunity, a major risk, and perhaps even a grand illusion. Moving beyond algorithms, robots, and the companies developing them, Jalongo's documentary approaches AI as a profoundly human question.
Combining science, poetry, and art, Wider Than the Sky embarks on a journey to explore what artificial intelligence might reveal about humanity itself. Could a collective approach to AI help shape a more positive future? And, as technology becomes increasingly capable, what does it mean to remain human?
The screening will be followed by a discussion.
