Kampala, Uganda (10 & 11 November 2014) - 100 government officials representing ten countries of Eastern and Central Africa attended a high-level workshop designed and delivered by Executive Education. The training was organised as part of a multi-year capacity-building programme, customised for member countries of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
The two-day intensive workshop was dedicated to strategic foresight and scenario thinking--for envisioning the future of the Great Lakes region. It built upon on five issues of common regional interests (regional integration, natural resources, food security, health and education). The results of the workshop's collaborative, analytical sessions will now lead to the publication of a foresight scenario for each of the five themes.
Participants of the workshop were alumni of the Regional Training Programme for Officials from the Great Lakes Region, which has been implemented by the Graduate Institute, in partnership with the Secretariat of the ICGLR and sponsored by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
In total, seven intensive programmes (of 2-weeks each) have been delivered by Executive Education since 2009, in a series which alternated between Bujumbura and Kigali (in French and English). Over 130 officials participated across the training series, representing eleven of the ICGLR member countries and staff from its Secretariat.
Building upon knowledge acquired from prior programmes, this November 2014 Workshop was a capstone learning experience, and it served as a networking reunion of programme alumni, allowing for a large-scale exchange of experiences and insights.
An official ceremony to mark the occasion was be attended by His Excellency Mr. Henry Oryem Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Uganda, with representatives of the International Conference on the Great Lakes region. The group of faculty, trainers and facilitators from the Graduate Institute was led by Prof. Cédric Dupont, Director of Executive Education.
The full training series and this high-level workshopwere organised and delivered by our Customised Programmes team in Executive Education, which tailors programmes for organisations, governments and companies in Switzerland and around the world.
