THE FUTURE VISION DOCUMENTS: A CHALLENGE TO THE JEWISH STATE OR AN ALTERNATIVE FOR COEXISTENCE?

On 16 November, 2021, PhD Candidate Andrea Pizzinato presented his work on "The Future Vision Documents: A Challenge to the Jewish State or an Alternative for Coexistence?"

Event Summary

Presenter: Andrea Pizzinato (PhD Candidate)
Commentator: Professor Riccardo Bocco

In the latest instance of the International History and Politics Brunches on November 16th, PhD candidate Andrea Pizzinato presented his work on the Future Vision Documents, which consisted in a series of documents circulated between 2006 and 2007 by a number of Palestinian civil societies within the state of Israel.
Pizzinato’s presentation highlighted, among other things, how the Future Vision Documents signify an attempt to redefine the relationship between Israel’s own Palestinian community and the Jewish State through the framing of indigeneity as a category of meaning and self-legitimation meant to advance the Palestinian citizens’ demands vis-à-vis the state.
Thanks to close textual analysis, Pizzinato’s work untangles the various layers of discursive meanings which the Future Vision Documents are built upon, and provides some contest to their reception thanks to in person interviews that were conducted in Israel by the researcher.
