Last Thursday, the Graduate Institute hosted a recruitment fair of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) that was attended by more than 150 participants, many of whom had travelled from as far as the UK, Belgium, Holland, Germany or Italy.
No less than 20 leading schools of international affairs were represented at the APSIA Geneva fair organised by the Institute’s Academic Outreach Department, from the American University, Columbia, the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, George Washington University, Georgetown, the Hertie School of Governance, the IE School of Arts and Humanities, Johns Hopkins, the National University of Singapore, Princeton, Sciences Po, Syracuse, Tufts, California - San Diego, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Southern California, St.Gallen and Yale.
In addition to introducing prospective international students to its study programmes, the Institute took advantage of the occasion to make contact with students from other Swiss universities, including those of Geneva, Lausanne, Fribourg, Zurich, Berne and neighbouring France as well as to strengthen its ties and gain visibility with its APSIA partners. The Institute’s booth, which was attended by Dr Jasmine Champenois, Dr Laurent Neury and Dr Dominic Eggel, was one of the most visited during the course of the evening.
APSIA holds a series of annual recruitment fairs in the United States and Europe as well as, on a rotating basis, in a third region of the world (Asia, Latin America or the Middle East). APSIA fairs are central to the Graduate Institute’s recruitment strategy allowing it to reach out to highly qualified students who are looking for postgraduate study programmes in the fields of international affairs and development studies and aim to pursue careers in the international sector.
In fall 2011, the Graduate Institute participated in a total of 13 APSIA fairs, Dr Laurent Neury attended the events in New York, Washington DC, Toronto and Paris and Dr Dominic Eggel those in Shanghai (which was co-organised at Fudan University by the Graduate Institute and Swissnex Shanghai), Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Vienna and Madrid. At these fairs the Institute benefited from the assistance of alumni (Miren Apparicio in Madrid; Pierre Dorsaz and Vivianne Gut in Shanghai; Emilie Tran in Macau, Michael Jelenic and Flavius Mihaies in Washington DC), current students (Nikita Chiu in Hong Kong), exchange students (Tiphaine Caulier and Anouchka Didier in Los Angeles); and Swissnex representatives (Lilian Ackle in San Francisco).
