McGill University is a leading University in Canada and we are delighted to deepen our existing ties through the launch of this new BA/MA program. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the first cohort of talented and engaged students.
Marie-Laure Salles, Director of the Geneva Graduate Institute
McGill University is the top ranked university in Canada and among the preferred destination for international studies in North America. The Geneva Graduate Institute’s agreement is tied to McGill’s International Development Studies (IDS) programme — an undergraduate interdisciplinary programme in which approximately 1300 students are enrolled.
The new pathway BA-MA programme will allow participating students to spend seven semesters of their studies at McGill University, thereby earning a bachelor’s degree in IDS after three and a half years. In the eighth semester, after successfully graduating from McGill, students will begin their studies at the Geneva Graduate Institute. They will then complete a fifth year at the Graduate Institute to fulfill the requirements for the Master's degree. The BA-MA programme allows students to graduate with two degrees in five instead of six years.
In order to partake in the programme, students must be nominated by McGill and then apply to the Geneva Graduate Institute. They may apply to any of the Institute’s Master programs – the Interdisciplinary Master in International & Development Studies (MINT) or the five disciplinary Masters. In any given academic year, up to five McGill students will be admitted into the BA/MA programme.
McGill and the Geneva Graduate Institute are such natural partners, and we're thrilled to now have a partnership in place. Our McGill students are so eager to immerse themselves in the study and practice of international development, and the Geneva Graduate Institute provides an unmatched array of courses, mentorship, and practical knowledge. We look forward to building this partnership in the years to come, and to strengthening the bonds between our two institutions.
