The Global Migration Centre joins international partnership to advance inclusive forced migration research

The Global Migration Centre is proud to announce its role as a partner in a major new international research collaboration led by Carleton University’s Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN).

This multi-year partnership brings together leading universities, refugee-led organizations, and international agencies to transform how research and policy on forced migration are developed and applied.

The goal of the initiative is for the knowledge and expertise of those most affected by displacement to shape forced migration studies, policy, and practice, contributing to a global response system that is more effective, legitimate, and accountable to displaced communities themselves.

Through this collaboration, partners will mobilize a global network that embraces diverse perspectives, generates new forms of knowledge, and promotes transformative yet practical responses to forced migration. The Global Migration Centre will contribute through joint research, training, and knowledge mobilization activities designed to strengthen locally grounded and equitable approaches to understanding and addressing displacement.

Running from 2025 to 2031, the project includes partners from across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and North America, with support from organizations such as Global Affairs Canada.

Together, this partnership represents a significant step toward shifting power in global forced migration research, ensuring that displaced people are not only the focus of research, but active participants in shaping its direction and impact.
