Last Friday, under clear skies by the shores of Lake Geneva, 176 young and hopeful graduates celebrated their hard work over the last two years with friends and family at the 2013 Graduation Ceremony for master students.
The Institute warmly congratulates all of these ambitious and talented youth for their accomplishments and wishes them the best for their future. They will go on to make a contribution to tackling global challenges, joining the ranks of several generations of accomplished alumni. They will make their marks in public service (international, governmental, and non-governmental organisations), in the private sector (finance, multinational companies, and consulting) and the academic world (think-tanks and universities).
Elisabeth Prügl, Deputy-Director of the Institute and Professor of International Relations/Political Science, presided over the event with Bruno Arcidiacono, Director of Studies and Professor of International History.
Four students were awarded for their exceptional theses:
Julia Otten, Master in International Law graduate was awarded the Arditi Prize in International Relations.
Francesca Piana, PhD graduate in International History, won the Pierre du Bois prize awarded each year for an outstanding thesis in International History and Politics.
Maria Tait Slys was awarded the Mariano Garcia Rubio Prize for his outstanding master’s dissertation in International Law.
The Alumni Association presented its annual prize for an outstanding PhD thesis to Matthias Rieger of the PhD International Economics programme.
The outgoing President of the Graduate Institute Student Association, Connor Sattely gave the final address of the cermony and closed by saying "I look forward to seeing what we will accomplish; congratulations".
