Jean-Louis Arcand highlights the shortcomings of foreign aid

Economics professor discusses food prices, GMOs and the effectiveness of development in podcast.

In an exclusive audio interview, Professor at the Graduate Institute and Head of its Development academic unit, Jean-Louis Arcand talks about how the world’s population, which will reach 9 billion by 2050, will face challenges in its efforts to generate enough food to survive.

Interviewed by Katy Anderson, former BBC correspondent and Institute alumna, Professor Arcand also discusses how and why development aid has produced disappointing results over the past decades.

Are multinational agricultural corporations beneficial or harmful for the global food supply?

Should developed countries continue to shell out enormous amounts of money for developing countries while results fail to live up to expectations?

These are some of the issues covered in the latest episode of the Institute’s podcast.
