Jussi Hanhimäki Elected to the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters

Professor Jussi Hanhimäki has been elected to membership of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters as an External Member at their Spring Meeting on 25 April 2025.

The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is made up of ordinary members, external members, and honorary members. Members are academics and scientists of proven excellence who have outstanding research careers. Membership is a high honour, and there can be no more than 333 members under the age of 65 at any given time.

I’m honoured to have been elected as a Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.  Having spent my early life in Finland and then built my career elsewhere, it is particularly rewarding and humbling to be recognized in this manner.  The election also underlines the essentially borderless nature of the discipline of history and science more generally.

Jussi Hanhimäki is one of 39 new members elected in 2025. Membership is for life.
