Negotiated Exits from Organized Crime? Building Peace in Conflict and Crime-affected Contexts

CCDP researcher Achim Wennmann explores dialogue and negotiation with organized crime groups. The article, published by Harvard's Negotiation Journal, begins with the assumption that engaging in dialogue and negotiations with organized crime groups is not unusual and that such strategies have been used for decades in crime and violence reduction efforts in urban and civil war settings. Wennmann seeks to demystify this issue and explores how mediators and negotiators can adapt existing peacebuilding practices to help structure dialogue with organized groups.
