Macalester College is a global leader among liberal arts colleges in the United States and shares the Geneva Graduate Institute’s dedication to internationalism and multiculturalism.
The Institute and Macalester also share an important alumnus: Kofi Annan. Before coming to Geneva for graduate school, Kofi Annan completed his undergraduate degree in economics at Macalester in 1961. In his honour, Macalester renamed their global studies institute the Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship in 2018. This institute fosters global awareness, critical thinking, and social responsibility among students, aligning with “Annan’s vision of a more just and equitable world”.
Macalester is excited to offer our students this international opportunity which will help them advance their post-graduate careers. We treasure the special connection with Geneva Graduate Institute through both having Kofi Annan as our alumnus.
Hui N. Wilcox, Dean, Kofi Annan Institute for Global Citizenship, Macalester College
We are delighted to strengthen our ties with Macalester College through this new BA/MA partnership. It is especially meaningful to build on the shared legacy of Kofi Annan, an outstanding alumnus of both our institutions, and to create new opportunities for the next generation of globally engaged students.
Laurent Neury, Executive Director of Studies, Geneva Graduate Institute
The new pathway BA-MA programme will allow participating Macalester students to spend the autumn semester of their senior year at the Geneva Graduate Institute, before returning to their home university for their final semester and graduation. After graduating from Macalester, students will return to the Geneva Graduate Institute for their master’s degree in their fifth year. The BA-MA programme thus allows students to graduate with two degrees in five instead of six years.
In order to partake in the programme, students must be nominated by Macalester and then apply to the Geneva Graduate Institute. They may apply to any of the Institute’s Master programmes. In any given academic year, up to five Macalester students will be admitted into the BA/MA programme.
