New project at the Global Migration Centre: I Come From Where I Am Going

I Come From Where I Am Going is a participatory documentary project exploring Afghan mobility through personal narratives and collective memory. Combining a film, public screenings, and a travelling micro‑exhibition, it amplifies lived experiences of migration and reframes mobility as a fundamental human condition.

I Come From Where I Am Going is a participatory research and film project running from April 2026 to March 2029, combining anthropology, documentary filmmaking, and public engagement. Focusing on Afghan mobility and itinerant lives, the project explores migration through personal narratives that connect individual experiences with broader global questions.

Led by anthropologist Alessandro Monsutti and filmmaker Mohammad Mehdi Zafari, the project brings together a 26‑minute documentary film, public screenings and discussions, and a travelling micro‑exhibition. By amplifying voices shaped by instability and movement, it invites wider audiences to reflect on migration not as an exception, but as a long‑standing and integral dimension of human life.
