The Global Migration Centre is delighted to announce the publication of The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration: A Commentary by Professor Vincent Chetail, published by Oxford University Press.
Representing four years of research and gathering 31 leading experts across the world, this landmark publication provides the first comprehensive legal commentary on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), the first intergovernmental agreement adopted by the United Nations to address all dimensions of international migration.
Combining legal scholarship, policy analysis, and practical insights, this edited volume examines the normative foundations, legal content, and policy relevance of the Compact. It offers a detailed analysis of each of the GCM's 23 objectives, situating them within broader frameworks of international law, human rights, and migration governance.
Beyond its legal analysis, the commentary explores how states, international organizations, local authorities, civil society, and private-sector actors are interpreting and implementing the Compact's provisions. In doing so, it provides a timely assessment of the challenges and opportunities facing global migration governance.
