Nouveau livre: Diplomatie universitaire et Genève internationale durant la guerre froide

Geneve, 2 Septembre 2026 – Le CDHM a le plaisir d’annoncer la parution de l’ouvrage de Charlotte Roy, chercheuse du centre. Intitulé Diplomatie universitaire et Genève internationale durant la guerre froide, ce livre paraît aux Éditions Alphil – Presses universitaires suisses et offre une plongée inédite dans les dynamiques intellectuelles, diplomatiques et institutionnelles qui ont façonné Genève au cœur des tensions Est‑Ouest et des bouleversements liés à la décolonisation.

S’appuyant sur des archives rarement exploitées, Charlotte Roy s’intéresse à l’histoire de l’Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales de Genève pendant la guerre froide. L’ouvrage met en lumière comment L’Institut, sous la direction de Jacques Freymond, a contribué à maintenir des passerelles universitaires entre blocs politiques opposés, faisant de l’Institut un espace d’influence, et de diplomatie discrète.

Ce travail s’inscrit pleinement dans la mission du CDHM de valoriser les archives et rendre accessible au public une histoire vivante du multilatéralisme.

 

Book Release: Academic Diplomacy and International Geneva during the Cold War

Geneva, 2 September 2026 – The Centre for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism (CDHM) is pleased to announce the publication of a book by Charlotte Roy, a researcher at the centre. Entitled ‘Academic Diplomacy and International Geneva during the Cold War’, the book is published by Éditions Alphil – Presses universitaires suisses and offers a unique insight into the intellectual, diplomatic and institutional dynamics that shaped Geneva in a time of East-West tensions and the decolonization movement.

Drawing on rarely used archives, Charlotte Roy examines the history of the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva during the Cold War. The book highlights how the Institute, under the direction of Jacques Freymond, helped to maintain academic bridges between opposing political blocs, transforming the then-vulnerable institution into an influential hub for quiet diplomacy.

This work is fully in line with the CDHM’s mission to promote the valorisation of archives and make a living history of multilateralism accessible to the public.
