Peter Maurer to Join the Geneva Graduate Institute as Senior Distinguished Fellow

Geneva Graduate Institute students had the privilege to attend a Chatham House dialogue with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at the Maison de la paix.

A new format of conferences was recently launched at the Geneva Graduate Institute offering our students opportunities for exclusive exchanges with leaders of International Geneva.

For the first edition of these dialogues, Peter Maurer shared some personal reflections on the key issues for the humanitarian world nowadays, drawing examples from ICRC’s current action on the ground in Ukraine. The discussion was moderated by Andrew Clapham and guided by questions prepared by the Junior Diplomatic Initiative, student-led organisation aiming to bring aspiring junior diplomats close to the reality of their potential future in the world of diplomacy through interactive conferences.

In her introduction, Director Marie-Laure Salles had the pleasure to announce that Peter Maurer is joining the Geneva Graduate Institute as Senior Distinguished Fellow as of September this year. “We are immensely privileged to be part of Peter Maurer’s new life starting this September. Our students and our community at large will have the chance to benefit from his invaluable and deep experience in international diplomacy and humanitarian action. The combination of courageous leadership with poised reflexivity that defines Peter is an inspiration to all of us”.

The Graduate Institute is honoured and pleased that prominent personalities such as Peter Maurer, who have played and still play an important role in the international arena, have accepted the status of Distinguished Fellows. In that quality, they participate in our intellectual life, help us with their advice and network, and contribute to our outreach.
