Politis was a university professor who served as Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to France and Belgium, and played a key role in the League of Nations. In 1932, he was elected president of the Assembly. He also taught at the Graduate Institute for International Studies (HEI). His papers — spanning 53 archival boxes — include personal correspondence, diplomatic documents, and materials from the Hague Academy of International Law. Some documents consist in handwritten reflections key international issues of the time.
The Politis papers represent unique sources to study key international issues of the interwar period as well as the evolution of international law.
This was made possible thanks to the core partnership between the Centre for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism of the Geneva Graduate Institute and the UN Library & Archives Geneva, that holds these unique archives.
The Politis Papers can now be explored online !
This project is a great representation of the CDHM’s mission to bring greater visibility to archival collections. This initiative is part of a broader effort, with several digitization projects already in progress with partner organizations, aimed at opening up the archival landscape to a wider audience.
